Select The Right Color & Material For Your Duvet
Duvet or down comforter sets are an important part of any bedding set which gives the body warmth, relaxation, and the ability to instantly fall into a deep, peaceful sleep the moment you’re comfortably wrapped up in it. For most people, a duvet is a simple piece of bedding that doesn’t really have much to do with the overall look of a room. But with the wide variety of styles and colors available, a duvet can make a big difference in the overall style and look of a bedroom. Here are some tips on how to choose a duvet or down comforter for your room.
The first thing you want to keep in mind when trying to figure out how to pick out a duvet or comforter set is what type of room it’s going to be used in. If your bedroom has a lot of natural light coming in from the windows and is cool in the summer months, then a duvet set made from solid color, pure cotton is a great choice. But if you have an overcast or shady room, you’ll probably want something that reflects the rays of the sun to give you the feeling of light even during the dark hours. Keep in mind that a darker color will absorb more heat than a lighter one so if you have a room that tends to get hot in the summer and chilly in the winter, then go with a light duvet set for better heating and a darker one for the winter.
Also, think about how often you’re going to be using the comforter in your bedroom. Do you have a regular bedtime routine and need a solid color comforter for those times when you’re asleep and don’t want to take the chance of a lighter one getting stained and matted? Or maybe you’re just sleeping through the day with your duvet set in the same color as the rest of your furniture, making sure that it’s never mismatched with anything else in the room.
If you already have a color in mind, but want something a little more unusual, think about having a matching duvet set for your bedroom furniture. You might not always want to stick to the same color that you’ve got in your room but it will also help if the color of the furniture matches the comforter as well. If you have two different colored chairs in your bedroom, you could try a solid black duvet set or a patterned one for the main pieces, then add the accents with a lighter color for the chairs.
Choosing a comforter set also means that you want to consider the materials. When choosing a duvet set, try to choose ones made from the down which has a higher quality of down. Most down comforter sets contain an entire down comforter that has been pre-treated so that it has a natural shine and that will last much longer than other synthetic down comforter sets. However, the down comforter sets come with a drawback. Because it is a down comforter, the down in the mattress can collect dust and hair so you’ll want to vacuum it every now and then to ensure that you have a clean and fresh down comforter to sleep on.
If you have a solid color comforter, you’ll still want to consider the color of the base fabric you’re looking for. If you’re not planning on using the down comforter, then it doesn’t hurt to choose a lighter color for the base so that it’s easy to match the upholstery in your bedroom. A duvet with a plain white down comforter is going to look great but a more intricate and elaborate shade will give the whole room a more unique look.
You can also use contrasting colors in your bedspread for a look that is really unique. A bedspread that’s covered in a neutral color is also a good option because it will blend with the bedding, the upholstery, and any other decorative accessories you might be using in your bedroom.
Bedding sets are also a great way to match different bedding items. When you buy a matching duvet set, you get both the comforter and the duvet itself. You can add a matching duvet cover to make sure that the sheets and pillowcases to match too.
